The late Auberon Waugh said of the 96 vintage of this wine, that if he was to buy only one claret for the rest of his life, this would be it. Sadly he lived to enjoy only a few cases, but why not take his advice and lay in some supplies of the very similar 2003, which we feel he would have enjoyed. Single bottle price 8.58 Classy claret at any price!
Michael Regaud with his father Jean Pierre makes a range of white and red wines in this picturesque part to the south of Bordeaux. 60 hectares of vines are planted on mainly clay and limestone soil over a rocky subsoil, with small areas of sand and gravel. The wines are vinified in a new winery complex at Le Puy, the majority of reds being unoaked and bottled after 18 months maturation. A smaller quantity is oak matured to make a reserve style. The wines tend to be forward and approachable and made in a more modern style than many of their neighbours.
