Sailors of clipper ships had to rely on weatherglasses like this one to warn of approaching storms on the high seas. In those days they were state-of-the-art barometric pressure gauges.
Today, they're a fun and attractive way to predict weather changes. The rise and fall of coloured water forecasts the weather up to 24 hours ahead - a rise means a storm is approaching, a fall means smooth sailing ahead. Made from mouth-blown leaded glass and metal, complete with wall mount and blue colouring. 31cms high.
